Would rather give $20+ AAV
short-term to Clay Holmes and Sonny Gray than $25+ AAV long-term to Michael King or Freddy Peralta.

Similarly to the trade deadline, there is no greater player -> team fit than Clay Holmes and the Chicago Cubs.

Pretty awesome contract. Less than $6 million AAV for the remaining prime years of a defender good enough to probably give you a ~2 WAR floor every season, coming off a career year offensively.
