Tom Walls returns to the podcast. Last time we talked, he was coaching near Winnipeg, Canada. This time, he joined us from his den in Medellín, Colombia.
Coach Walls coaches the Medellín Raptors, a club team in Colombia's American football league. He talks with us about the challenges of coaching a team with players ranging from 14 to 40 years old, and the obvious language barrier. Not all football terms translate easily into Spanish.
We also discuss his new book on culture, releasing in January 2027. Tom has also launched a new website focused on culture and team building. In the book, he writes about his four-step system for building culture. He says, "Culture is a system, not a slogan."
I hope you enjoy the conversation with Coach Walls.

Coaching is more than Xs and Os:
One of the coaches I consult for (he uses my resources, too) lost a tough playoff game last night in the final seconds of the game.
He was missing two kids (4 starters). One was injured and other was suspended. The suspended one is a senior and here is what the coach text me this morning:
“We had a good long talk after the game. Comes from a tough home. Has all the athletic ability and smarts in the world, lots of potential if he gets out of his own way. Hoping I can keep mentoring him and keep him moving forward.”

This is the kind of coaching that people outside of the profession never see, but it is what separates us from many other professions.
Transformational > Transactional

Why should the Jet Sweep be a part of your offense?
The Jet Sweep's versatility extends beyond its primary function. It also serves as a valuable decoy in an offense's playbook. The mere threat of the play forces defenses to respect the motion and adjust accordingly, potentially opening up other areas of the field. For instance, a fake Jet Sweep can set up a variety of other plays. Power and Counter runs, play-action passes, and screens can exploit what the defense is doing to stop the Jet. The constant motion and misdirection keep the defense guessing, making it harder for them to key on specific plays.
Contact me at seagle.chip@gmail.com to get a free copy of my Jet resource. It is excerpted from a clinic talk I gave at the Southeast Wing-T Clinic in Dublin, GA, this past March.
