Gird your loins

There's almost always something to be done to improve one's position, even after defeat. But if it's important not to doom, it's also important not to presume. Skip the lazy reassurances about how "the pendulum will swing back" or "there's always next time." Your opponents want to make sure there's no next time for you.
The point is to give our best to the task before us, like it really counts and there are no do-overs.

Man who repeatedly proves that decline is a choice
> Haiti gangs snatch 4 Salvadorans
> they think they just bought themselves a negotiation
> Bukele goes public saying bring them back or you're done
> they try to hand him 4 random bodies and say it was them
> he calls out their bs
> sends 2,000 troops into Haiti
> tells the leader to gather their gangs so he can fight them
> gangs run to the UN for a deal
> refuses all deals
> ignores the UN mandate
> pushes into gang territory and starts cleaning them
> does more in two weeks than the UN did in 13 years

After he died in Afghanistan, ESPN ran short tributes honoring Pat Tillman and telling his story. The tributes shook me to the core. An NFL player left football to join the Army Rangers after 9/11 (taking a 95% paycut for his efforts)! I could hardly believe what I was seeing, especially as a child of the Clinton and Bush years, which look cool compared to today but were plagued by spiritual mediocrity and exhaustion.
It had never really dawned on me that a someone could be that excellent. He even kind of looked like a lion—the tawny hair, the ferocious eyes.
Of course someone so manly had to die in a hopeless war—and then his honor was exploited by jackass cheerleaders for that war. That is the fate of greatness in such times. But what really mattered was his manliness. Those tributes were my awakening to something much bigger than I had previously known.
RIP Patrick Daniel Tillman.

Always remembered. Forever honored. 🤍
Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Pat Tillman on what would have been his 50th birthday.View quoted post on X
