🚨Coach Dylan McLauchlin🚨

Episode 62 is out now! Link in bio 🔗 Thank you Coach for your time and insight. It’s always great to see young coaches not only finding success on the field, but are rooted in values and care ultimately about their impact off the field.

Coach Dylan McLauchlin is the head baseball coach at Sumner High School (WA) and Director of Player Development for Elevate Tridents. A 2012 Enumclaw High School graduate, he played at Green River Community College before arm injuries ended his career.
He then spent over a decade coaching select and high school baseball. He led West Seattle to a 3A state championship and three Final Four appearances (with 67 wins) before taking over at Sumner in 2024. There, he guided the Spartans to an 18-8 record and a state tournament berth in year one, followed by a 23-4 season and the program’s first-ever 4A state title in year two—giving him two state championships as a head coach. He has also helped develop more than 100 players who advanced to college or pro levels.
Coach McLauchlin is known for a process-oriented approach that emphasizes a comfortable, family-like environment, aggressive baserunning, mental resilience, and developing both skilled players and strong teammates.

🚨 Coach Derek Bingham 🚨

Episode 64 is out now! Link in bio 🔗Thank you for your time, insight, and authenticity, Coach. Your work ethic and commitment to your teams are truly admirable.

Coach Derek Bingham has been the head baseball coach at Lake Washington High School since 2005. He also serves as the school’s head golf coach and as JV basketball coach at Monroe High School. In addition to his coaching roles, he is one of the owners of Top Tier Sports, which organizes leagues, tournaments, and showcases year-round across the Pacific Northwest.

Under Coach Bingham, the Kangs have recorded over 335+ wins, claimed nine KingCo titles, and reached the WIAA state tournament 11 times. The program has won three state championships (3A in 2016 and 2019; 4A in 2025)—including the school’s first title in 2016—and finished as runners-up in 2014 and 2023. Coach Bingham is the first Washington coach to lead a team to state title games in the 4A, 3A, and 2A classifications.

His honors include four KingCo Coach of the Year awards, WSBCA/NFHS Washington State Coach of the Year (2016 and 2019), and 2016 ABCA Division III Regional Coach of the Year. Beyond on-field success, one of the things he is most proud of is a coaching staff filled with former players who once played for him.

Key Takeaways:

Give players ownership through shared leadership and real responsibility.

Practice game situations so athletes can make confident decisions under pressure.

Explain the “why” behind decisions to deepen understanding and buy-in.

Make room for individual goals—personal growth can make the whole team stronger.

Define every player’s role and encourage teammates to push one another.

Measure success beyond wins: create meaningful experiences and help athletes grow for life.

Build trust by supporting athletes after mistakes, not piling on when they already know they erred.

It’s a two-way street players impact the coaches just as much as the coaches impact them.

Coacher,
Stop treating your business like a race to “arrive.” Your work isn’t about constantly getting somewhere.

It’s about fully being here — with your team, with the session, with the process.

Dan Millman said it perfectly:“Your business is not to get somewhere, it is to be here.”

Presence is the real skill.

Coacher,
Your results aren’t the problem.

They’re just the scoreboard. The real game is played in the small, daily habits you repeat when no one is watching.

James Clear said it best:
“Your outcomes are lagging measures of your habits.” If you want different results, stop obsessing over the outcome and start owning the process.

What’s one habit you’re doubling down on this week? Drop it below.
