Weeks of legal work. And the taker still carries the dealer’s counterparty risk.
Every OTC derivatives trade where the dealer asks for collateral to be posted directly to them opens the same conversation:

→ Are the assets segregated?
→ What can the dealer do with them?
→ What insolvency protections apply?
→ Which jurisdiction governs a dispute or insolvency?
→ What does enforcement look like?

Then come the drafts, redrafts, and legal and risk sign-offs on every term. It can takes weeks, sometimes months. And the taker still carries the dealer’s counterparty risk, whilst the assets sit on the dealer’s balance sheet without protections.

There is another way: ClearLoop Assigned Collateral (CAC).

With CAC, collateral assets still sit on the dealer’s balance sheet, but they’re ring-fenced within Copper, restricted to use on connected exchanges through ClearLoop and cannot be withdrawn. The protection isn’t negotiated. It’s enforced by the infrastructure.

For dealers, that means faster onboarding of new takers. For takers, it could be the difference between executing this quarter and executing next year.

Elin Cherry of @CopperHQ says Democratic control of Congress doesn’t mean a lot for crypto regulation right away, since the administration still controls key regulators.

However, she tells @jd_durkin that “there’s still a lot that can happen with regulation during this time.”

In October, #ClearLoop:
→ Processed 50.9M trades
→ Supported $98.1B in notional trading volume
→ Completed $3.2B in gross settlements

These numbers reflect ClearLoop's continued role as a core piece of institutional off-exchange settlement infrastructure.

With ClearLoop your assets stay in Copper custody while you trade on exchange, so a venue outage or freeze doesn’t put your treasury at stake. It reduces how much you have to rely on any single venue while keeping your assets mobile.

Not sure how much exposure you’re carrying on exchange? We can walk you through it.
