πŸŽ™οΈ DeepStation is excited to share the post-event summary and photos from the Your Ballot. Your Block. team's demo at AI Demo Night, at The LAB Miami!

πŸ—³οΈ From hackathon winner to the stage: Your Ballot. Your Block.

The Grand Champions of Hack for Humanity: Miami, Sharif Amlani, Vania Arredondo, Schneur Werde and Sandy Denis, demoed the app they built in under five hours at the hackathon. Vania worked on design, Sandy on research into the community's needs, and Schneur on the kiosks.

Their core message was clear: different communities have different priorities, and finding out who on your ballot shares yours should be quick, easy and private.

They walked us through:
β€’ The two problems they set out to solve: not knowing who is on your ballot or where to find unbiased information, and not making time to vote
β€’ A kiosk that opens with a blind date with your ballot: agree or disagree with statements before you see who said them
β€’ A live website where all you need is your address, then a voice interview on issues that matter in Miami
β€’ Matching your answers to each candidate's positions, votes and speeches, race by race from federal to state
β€’ A voting plan with your polling places, and a one-page ballot to print and take to the polls

πŸ’‘ What stood out was how the kiosk draws you in: "So we built this idea of kiosks. You just come up to them and you start with the first part of our process, which is the blind date with your ballot."

Key Takeaways:
πŸ”Ή Hook people with a game before the data: the blind date takes seconds and makes people curious enough to see their full ballot.
πŸ”Ή Let people talk instead of type: a voice interview of about 10 questions maps where you stand.
πŸ”Ή End with an action, not just an answer: the app turns your matches into a voting plan.
πŸ”Ή When people give you their address, store nothing: the app has no backend database and saves no data.

A special thank you to The LAB Miami for hosting DeepStation in this amazing space, and to all the volunteers who made the night possible. πŸ™Œ

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We're looking forward to sharing more about our next event soon! 🎯

πŸŽ™οΈ DeepStation is excited to share the post-event summary and photos from Damian Montero's talk at AI Demo Night, at The LAB Miami!

πŸ’» What's New in Codex from OpenAI DevDay:

Damian Montero (Senior AI Advocate and Lead Developer, AI Center of Excellence at JM Family, and Founder, FloridaJS) took the room through what OpenAI announced for developers at DevDay. A developer for 30 years, Damian founded FloridaJS, one of South Florida's largest developer meetup groups.

Damian's core message was clear: every wave that promised to replace developers created more of them, and AI now puts building within everyone's reach.

Damian walked us through:
β€’ Codex in the cloud, and Codex code review
β€’ The Decisions API, built on a small model that makes decisions
β€’ The Agents API with computer use: an agent that takes over the screen to run your tests
β€’ Skills and plugins loaded from your repo, so your whole team has them the moment they open it
β€’ MCP Events, which let a server notify your agent instead of waiting to be asked

πŸ’‘ What stood out was Damian's rule of thumb for testing with an agent that uses your computer: "It is a godsend for everybody that's ever done testing. Integration testing. Literally, give it the same description you would tell a human, and that's it. Not the buttons. Not the IDs. Not what to do."

Key Takeaways:
πŸ”Ή Use a small, fast model when the job is a decision: the Decisions API categorizes in milliseconds, not seconds.
πŸ”Ή Keep building APIs: agents call them directly, and an MCP server is an API with good documentation.
πŸ”Ή Review from one place: Codex code review gathers every pull request waiting on you, from GitHub or GitLab.
πŸ”Ή Check what AI search says about you: ask ChatGPT who does your job at your company, and make sure it names you.

A special thank you to The LAB Miami for hosting DeepStation in this amazing space, and to all the volunteers who made the night possible. πŸ™Œ

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We're looking forward to sharing more about our next event soon! 🎯
