PUV Fulguration Using a Thulium Fibre Laser

Posterior urethral valve (PUV) fulguration is technically demanding. Traditionally, it is performed using cautery, either by fulguration or resection. We have recently started using the thulium fibre laser (TFL) for PUV fulguration and have seen good results.

In our experience, urethral stricture and incontinence have been very uncommon. At 3–6 months of follow-up, patients have shown a good voiding pattern.

In this video, we share the case of a 7-year-old boy who was referred after incomplete fulguration four years earlier. The TFL settings used were 1 J and 10 Hz.
