Some of the most generous things you can do cost you one email.

A young physician weighing a partnership may be trying to find someone who’ll tell them what it’s like after the papers are signed. You may have that person in your phone. Ask if they’d be willing to talk.

It’s the sort of asset you can give away and still have tomorrow.

An employer can agree with every word you say about why healthcare is expensive and still have nothing to buy from you.

Take a knee MRI. Give the employer a price, tell them whether it includes the radiologist’s reading, and show them how an employee books the scan. Now they have an offer they can compare with what they’re already paying.

A grievance is remarkably difficult to put on a purchase order.

Mr. Ellis:

I wonder how many Virginians recognize their own government’s handiwork in the healthcare costs they resent?

They continue to elect leaders who preserve Certificate of Need laws, giving established institutions protection from new competitors.

UVA Health extracts 49 taxpayer subsidies and uses them to acquire ownership of independent physician practices.

Meanwhile, Virginia has repeatedly declined to require price transparency.

The last four attorneys general have allowed tax-exempt hospital consolidation to proceed, and successive governors have offered little meaningful resistance.

It is a curious arrangement: taxpayers help finance the acquisitions, patients face fewer independent choices, and the officials responsible remain comfortably removed from the bill.

Virginians have the power to change these policies.

I wonder how much longer they will accept healthcare costs as something that happens to them, rather than something their elected officials help create.

This is from my Virginia Obamacare plan choices.

Who is buying this plan? Comes out to $67,000 per year in premiums!

Ask me what the cheapest Carefirst plan costs.

Five Massachusetts hospitals call Eli Lilly's terms "corporate extortion."

The terms: share claims data on 340B drugs, or lose the discount. They refused.

They buy at a federal discount and bill insurers the full rate.

The discount is public law. The spread stays private.
