it’s kind of painful to see an open source hacker turned into a corporate chain shill

georgios, your tweet doesn’t say anything concrete or useful

yes, ethereum has problems. most of the problems were cultural. we had an ossified mindset where performance or UX didn’t improve for multiple years because we thought we’d won and had to ossify à la bitcoin

there was a crisis after bangkok and since then things have improved substantially. the people now in charge of the EF are deeply capable, both technically and as managers

the chain is becoming faster, UX is improving, new clients like ethrex and silver by gattaca are being developed. we’re working on adopting post-quantum cryptography before almost anybody else. consensus is becoming faster and more decentralized. propAMMs are growing and enabling faster trading

there should be accountability. for many years the leadership of the EF didn’t want to increase the gas limit, focused too much on ETH’s monetary properties and the burn, and supported gatherings like zuzalu or pop-up cities that weren’t particularly useful from my point of view

the engineering teams were comfortably numb. solana’s pressure helped us become a better version of ourselves.

i don’t have a problem with criticism. i’m deeply critical of ethereum myself

what bothers me about your tweet is that you don’t say anything concrete. you ask for accountability but don’t explain what exactly you want people to be accountable for. calling people B players and rent seekers when there are incredible engineers and researchers working on ethereum today is particularly annoying

in a complex world like the one we’re going to live in, decentralized chains like bitcoin, ethereum and solana (yes, i see solana as a real player) are going to thrive.

what makes ethereum unique is its values and incredible research. engineering is still lagging behind, especially in UX, and there needs to be accountability.

a lot has changed since bangkok, and pretending nothing has improved is bizarre. it’s very intelectual dishonest

what bothers me the most is that paradigm finally chose to create its own chain. fine with me, competition is good, but don’t play this game where you’re inside ethereum and at the same time outside of it.

you chose to be outside of it, good luck with it

Great thread. It is very easy to contort yourself into faulty thinking over new financial products. I know I and every other young fintech productoor has.

A conversation that has happened many times in banking, with various flavor texts, from fintech to public banking to microfinance.

A: We think there is an opportunity to write loans to an underserved population.
B: At usuriously high rates?
A: No, at usual rates. Maybe lower.

Marx does have some of the best descriptive analysis of capitalism and liberal economics.

The thing is. And this was a major 🔑 for me several years ago, in thinking about the podcast, is that communists are obsessed with capitalism. Some of them are so obsessed that they might even secretly love it. Whereas capitalists rarely spend any time thinking about it.

MAYBE I WAS WRONG ABOUT BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

I wrote about how I always used to make fun of the guys who said things like "Bitcoin is speculative, but the underlying blockchain technology is interesting." And now I think maybe they kinda had a point.
