Today, OpenAI Foundation and @RockefellerFdn are launching Cities Deliver: AI Solutions for Public Services, a $50 million initiative to support organizations that can help cities put AI to work on the problems their residents face every day.

Through a global open call, Cities Deliver will support nonprofits working alongside city governments to improve public health, economic mobility, environmental resilience and civic engagement – with the goal of ultimately reaching 100 million city residents worldwide

Applications are open through November 29.

Today we’re excited to launch Public Data for Health, with more than $125M in initial grants to nonprofits and universities creating and opening up high-quality scientific datasets.

AI is getting dramatically better at analyzing biology, but accelerating medical discovery depends on researchers having high-quality data to work with.

Our goal is to make more valuable scientific data broadly available so researchers can build on each other’s work and accelerate discoveries that help prevent and treat disease.

The OpenAI Foundation is investing $60M to help bring AI-powered weather and crop disease forecasts to 100 million smallholder farmers across South and Southeast Asia and East Africa over the next three years.

As climate change makes weather more volatile and extreme, farmers with little to fall back on if a harvest fails need timely, reliable forecasts to make critical decisions about when to plant, harvest and protect their crops.

Advances in AI are making high-quality weather forecasts more affordable, localized and accessible.
Through our Civil Society & Philanthropy team, we’re supporting @UChicago, @UCBerkeley, Precision Development, AIM for Scale, @digitalgreenorg and @CIMMYT who will work alongside governments and local institutions to turn these advances into useful, actionable guidance for farmers.
