Strong data from the ROADS clinical trial highlight the potential of GammaTile® cesium-131 collagen tile-based radiation therapy (TBRT) to improve outcomes for patients with brain metastases requiring surgery.
In the multicenter Phase 3 study, immediate placement of tile-based radiation during surgery resulted in significantly lower rates of tumor regrowth, a greater likelihood of living longer without recurrence, and significantly improved overall survival compared to standard of care, without increased side effects.
These findings, published as a Rapid Communication in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, reinforce the value of delivering targeted radiation therapy at the time of surgery. Based on the results, the study authors conclude that GammaTile should be considered a standard-of-care option for patients with newly diagnosed operable brain metastases.
