My piece @WSJopinion online today
A Papal Scare and a Lesson in Early Detection wsj.com/opinion/a-papa… via @WSJopinion
With the news that the Pope does not need any adjuvant treatment we hope that November’s Lung Cancer Awareness Month will help us redouble our efforts to prevent tobacco use and help smokers quit; expand access to low-dose computed tomography screening for those at risk; ensure prompt diagnosis and access to modern treatments; and recognize that lung cancer isn’t exclusively a smoker’s disease.
No one deserves lung cancer, whatever their smoking history. Patients need compassion, not judgment, and access to advances that can save their lives.
