Such calls only provide further justification for the Iranian government to intensify repression and tighten restrictions on public space, at a time when it is already ratifying a bill that would criminalize almost any contact with foreigners.

Everybody knows that the U.S. would not need such publicly provided information, given its close intelligence coordination with Israel.

This is nothing more than an irresponsible call primarily aimed at psychological operations, but one whose price, like that of many other moves by the U.S. administration, will ultimately be paid by the Iranian people.

Told @CNN that given the latest election results, the Iranians see no reason to offer Trump any nuclear concessions.

They are also expected to insist even more strongly than before on their demand that the United States take the first step before any deal can materialize.

Told @FT that #Iran wants most of the US commitments frontloaded, while nuclear elements — Trump’s priority — are deferred to the next stage.

If the US agrees to those conditions, they would be willing to take that deal. But I don’t see that, because that would be acceptance of defeat by the US.

Told @AJEnglish that the sense of victory being displayed by Iranian decision-makers will likely make them more uncompromising on core demands.

Those include seven conditions set for the partial reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a requirement for the US to take the first step.

The likelihood of Iran making concessions on the nuclear issue could also become even lower than before.
