On November 5, 1861, Cst. Matthew Gardner was the first Halifax police officer to die in the line of duty. He was fatally stabbed while responding to a call aboard the schooner “Shooting Star." His dedication, bravery and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. We honour his memory and service. #LODD #NSFallen

Police continue to investigate the disappearance of Leslie Anne Katnick

Today marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the disappearance of Leslie Anne Katnick and investigators with the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

On November 4, 1991, Leslie was reported missing to police in Montreal. Leslie had been living in Montreal, Quebec, until November 1, 1991, which was the last time she was seen by either friends or family.

Investigators determined that Leslie had been registered at the Halifax YMCA from November 2 to November 4. Leslie’s bank card was also used in Halifax on November 2.

Investigators believe there are people who have information about Leslie’s disappearance and urge these people to come forward and share anything that they remember, no matter how small the detail.

Anyone with information about Leslie’s disappearance is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Leslie’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers must contact the Rewards Program at 1-888-710-9090, must provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
