At today's Somos conference, Mayor Mamdani and Gov Kathy Hochul joined a round table hosted by Hispanic Federation to hear from non-profit leaders on the challenges facing Puerto Rico. As a part of that roundtable discussion, Hispanic Federation (HF) and the @FHLBNY shared details about a new partnership to strengthen the infrastructure of community-led resilience hubs across Puerto Rico. In the first year, this partnership has an initial commitment of $280,000 in funding that will impact at least 10 communities.

The New York leaders were very clear in their call for ongoing support for people in Puerto Rico and we look forward to working with lawmakers and organizations, both in New York and in Puerto Rico, to present solutions to the challenges the archipelago is facing. Now is the time for action.

Puerto Ricans have lived through more disasters than anyone should have to endure. This year’s water crises combined with hurricane season made it abundantly clear why we must do more to invest in community resilience. That’s why we are proud to announce our partnership with @FHLBNY to strengthen 10 community-led resilience hubs across Puerto Rico. With an investment of $280,000 we will add water storage, solar energy, and kitchen infrastructure so communities can better prepare and respond to the ongoing water and electricity crisis, the impacts of climate change, and future emergencies.

To raise awareness about the challenges that communities face and highlight the importance of community led resilience, today we hosted a roundtable conversation with local organizations and were joined by @GovKathyHochul, @NYCMayor Mamdani, Assembly Member @KarinesReyes87, and Jonathan West, Interim President and CEO of Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, and Alexies Sornoza, Senior Business Development Officer of FHLBNY. Thank you, @Dianne4NYC and Federico Cintrón of El Puente, for hosting us in your space. Hispanic Federation’s Frankie Miranda and Charlotte Gossett Navarro facilitated the conversation.

El Puente was one of the six local organizations involved in the roundtable that are supporting resilience hubs. The other groups in the roundtable included Taller Salud, Taller Comunidad La Goyco, Ponce Neighborhood Housing Services, G8: Grupo de las Ocho Comunidades Aledañas al Caño Martín Peña, and Parceleras Afrocaribeñas por la Transformación Barrial, all of whom will be supported by this new partnership.

Hispanic Federation is proud to partner with groups in Colorado to support the Unity Fund, which provides $25,000 to $50,000 annual grants to Colorado nonprofits. The deadline is November 12th and nonprofits can apply three funding areas:

✅ Legal services.
✅ Organizational capacity.
✅ General operating support.

This shared application process allows nonprofits to fill out one application and have proposals reviewed by five organizations. Together we are streamlining the application process so organizations can get back to the important work they are doing for their communities.

We are excited to partner with Latino Community Foundation of Colorado, Colorado Health Foundation coloradohealth.org, Rose Community Foundation rcfdenver.org, and The Women’s Foundation of Colorado wfco.org on the Unity Fund

History was made last night.

Across the country, people voted for representatives who broke barriers and proved that every community deserves a seat at the table.

To every immigrant, every background and every generation: representation matters. Our voices carry weight, our stories deserve to be heard, and we belong in the halls of power.

We honor those who came before us and paved the way, and we celebrate the young people watching today who now know there’s no limit to what they can become.

These are the firsts, but they won’t be the last.

Let’s celebrate! Join us in congratulating these trailblazers in the comments.
