IDC predicted 75% of organizations would use specialized accelerated cloud by 2026. Data privacy concerns also pushed some AI work into private cloud.

Dave McCarthy, IDC Group VP of Cloud and Data Center Infrastructure, says the 75% still holds and may run a little low. Whether driven by regulation or corporate governance, he says organizations want more control and more specificity about where their AI runs.

What changed along the way, and what he says to watch next, is in the blog. bit.ly/3UFIiqT

80% of organizations have started deploying agentic AI. Only 17% use it enterprise-wide.

Agentic AI changes how work gets done, and buyers are still working out the redesign. Lead with the business change you make possible, then show an outcome they can measure.

IDC’s Tony Olvet offers a test: could your customer report the result on an earnings call?

IDC Multiplier puts independent evidence behind that story.

Global telecom and pay TV services revenue will reach $1.585 trillion in 2026, up 2.3% year over year, according to IDC. The driver isn’t demand, it’s energy-cost inflation pushing operators to raise prices.

IDC’s Kresimir Alic says that growth is purely nominal: historical growth rates have consistently fallen short of reported inflation. The impact will vary sharply by region, with price-sensitive markets in Africa and parts of Asia/Pacific seeing customers trade down rather than absorb the hikes.

A record $28.9 billion quarter. 140.1% growth in one category alone. North American IT distribution just had its biggest quarter on record, and AI infrastructure demand drove nearly two-thirds of the increase.

IDC’s Brendan Rouse says the hyperscaler-only narrative is already out of date: distributors are moving servers, storage, and high-speed networking to ecosystem partners building their own AI capacity, and their ability to secure allocation set the new high. Memory and storage stay the constraint to watch heading into 2027.
