The best collectors of (early) digital art I know are almost never the loudest ones online. They’re asking about the paper, the code, the exhibition history. Looking for old catalogues. Following a lead that might take months. Their collections tell you more than their feeds.

From the browser to the building. The Whitney’s survey of internet art, curated by @ChristianePaul2.
Over 100 commissions from two and a half decades of artport, presented online and in the galleries as floating browser windows. A history of how artists have used the internet as medium and subject. Start November 21. Link in the photo.

It is a privilege to see this work enter a collection so carefully attuned to the longer history of digital and generative art. Thank you @TristanSpits for acquiring Entfaltung by @harmvddorpel

Generative art did not begin with the computer.
For @harmvddorpel, it begins with rules that let a work take shape beyond its author’s full control. His new series Entfaltung is inspired by Emma Kunz’s pendulum guided drawings. /1
