At Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, crashing waves remind us why this mighty lake is legendary.

The Pacific Ocean! Well, almost.

On Nov. 7, 1805, Lewis and Clark thought they'd reached the Pacific. But they were still 20+ miles away. What they saw was the widening mouth of the Columbia River.

Today, much of that landscape is protected by Lewis and Clark National Wildlife Refuge.

On National Bison Day, we celebrate this majestic symbol of strength and resilience. The bison represents our rich American heritage and is one of the greatest conservation success stories of all time. 🦬
