🏈Always exciting to see medical technology show up in unexpected places, even while watching college football!

☢️Seeing the SMART-C® portable mini C-arm being used for ankle fluoroscopy on the Alabama quarterback was a great reminder of the versatility of this technology.

At @LeBonheurChild, we use this same technology for something particularly impactful: bedside fluoroscopy to guide PDA closures in our tiniest patients in the NICU.

From the football field to the neonatal intensive care unit, the ability to bring advanced imaging directly to the patient is changing how and where we deliver care.

Pretty exciting to see innovation at work in both settings!

The @LeBonheurChild Pediatric TECH Summit continues….

Panel Discussion: Getting Pediatric Devices and Intellectual Property through regulatory pathways

Dr. Ranjit Philip, Rachel Brucker, Dr. Bret Alvis, and Dr. James Parrett

Moderated by Dr. James Wheless

Experts from @UTHSCMedicine , @VUMChealth, @Medtronic

1. Fail fast
2. Talk to IP and regulatory experts early in your idea
3. Focus your efforts after failures to refine what works

Lawyers, physicians, and medical company experts in the same room discussing these issues. What an amazing session!

Excellent presentation by Dr. @ckohmd1 at the @LeBonheurChild Pediatric Tech Summit on the future of pediatric medical device innovation.

Three important takeaways:

1️⃣Children are not small adults. Medical devices, from robotic surgical instruments to monitoring technology, must be designed around the unique size and needs of pediatric patients.
2️⃣Pediatric innovation faces unique barriers. Smaller markets, limited financial incentives, and perceived regulatory risks can discourage industry investment and slow development.
3️⃣Collaboration drives innovation. Partnerships among clinicians, engineers, researchers, and industry are essential to translating unmet clinical needs into technologies that improve outcomes for children.

A great reminder that advancing pediatric care requires not only clinical innovation, but also the tools and technology to make it possible.
