Labour History Group

Thanks to all who joined us last night to celebrate 50th anniversary of Jim Callaghan's premiership. Fascinating insights from Michael Cockerell, Peter Kellner, Baronesses Liddell, Hayter & Jay; Political Secretary Tom McNally & speechwriter Roger Carroll & GMB's Lord Whitty

👍👍👍

Roy Hattersley. Labour giant, & friend to the Labour History Group. His contribution to our panel alongside fellow Callaghan Cabinet member Bill Rodgers to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Hugh Gaitskell was really special. He will be missed. But never forgotten.

At LHG panel "Lessons for Labour from coalition & austerity: 1929-35", Phil & @greggmcclymont . Phil's essay on Lab leader Clynes just part of his legacy. With @LordJohnMann Phil played key role saving @LabourStudents from Militant, as @MichaelDugher chronicled. We'll miss him.

🚨🚨Fiftieth Anniversary of formation of Callaghan government. All-star panel including Downing St Policy Unit Chief Lord Donoughue; Scottish Labour chief Baroness Liddell; biographers Michael Cockerell & Peter Kellner; Baronesses Jay & Hayter. Eventbrite: eventbrite.co.uk/e/lessons-from…
