I'm a dermatologist, and I love it when my patients do and it just got a hell of a lot better.
Patients don't understand, forget or misremember at least half of what their doctor tells them, most of it before they reach the parking lot.
The dose. The plan. The "call us if this happens." All of it.
Handouts and printed after visit summaries don't actually help. I've published on this. They make the doctor and patient feel more confident. Zero impact on outcomes.
