The core stage of the Artemis III rocket is officially stacked.

Two employees in hard hats look up as a crane lifts the 212-foot core stage of the Artemis III rocket vertically into the transfer aisle of the VAB. Dominating the center of the image are four rocket engines on the bottom of the core stage. They are covered in red caps. Credit: NASA/Sean Cannon

The bottom half of the orange core stage of the Artemis III rocket is suspended vertically in High Bay 3 of the VAB as a crane moves it into place above the mobile launcher. Several levels of observation platforms are visible behind the core stage and one of the solid rocket boosters is seen below. Credit: NASA/Sean Cannon

Happy Halloween! 🌒

We study the Moon to gain knowledge, but sometimes it also provides us with some eerie images. Here are a few photos from Artemis II to get you in the spooky spirit!

A silhouetted view of the Moon as seen from the Artemis II spacecraft, with the lunar disk appearing dark against a bright halo of sunlight from behind. Part of the spacecraft, including a solar array, is visible in shadow on the left side of the frame. Credit: NASA

A close-up view of the Birkhoff crater on the Moon’s far side, captured by the Artemis II crew, shows the surface under low-light conditions. Credit: NASA

Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. In the image there is a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk. Credit: NASA

Captured on April 10, 2026, this photo is an underwater view of the Artemis II heat shield after splashdown, showing a circular, tiled pattern illuminated in blue-green tones. Credit: US Navy

“We’ve never been in this vantage point in the history of humankind.”

The Artemis II solar eclipse was a lot. In a good way. (54 minutes of totality! That's way longer than we get on Earth.)

The Moon has impeccable timing.

October's full Moon rises tonight, bringing a little moonlit magic to the start of Halloween week.

The Moon reaches peak illumination at 12:12am ET (0412 UTC) on Oct. 26. Don't forget to look up!

The full Moon of March 2025 glows against a deep blue evening sky, framed by the dark, twisting branches of a leafless tree. Photographed rising over New Orleans, home to NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility, on March 13, 2025, this full Moon coincided with a total lunar eclipse. Credit: NASA/Eric Bordelon

To prepare for NASA’s Artemis IV mission to land astronauts on the lunar surface, SpaceX and Blue Origin have updated their concepts of operations for its landers.

These landers — Starship and Blue Moon — have concepts of operations different from one another. More below ⬇️

Seen from behind the Moon during the Artemis II mission, the Moon and Earth align in the same frame, each partially illuminated by the Sun. The Moon’s surface appears in sharp detail in the foreground, while Earth sits much farther away, smaller and softly lit in the background. A faint reflection in the spacecraft window is also visible, subtly overlaying the scene. Though their phases differ, both are shaped by the same sunlight, revealing the geometry of the Sun–Earth–Moon system from deep space. Credit: NASA
