"When you get volatility in the milk price that's really hard for our members to stand in terms of cash flow."

📻NFU Dairy Board member Max Sealey has spoken to @BBCr4today following the announcement of milk price cuts. Max explained that dairy farmers' cashflow pressures are being worsened by price volatility, as well as the impacts of bluetongue disease and drought.

“This year there is going to be something like £850 million of expiring [agri-environment] schemes.”

📻 Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today, NFU President Tom Bradshaw highlighted the need for clarity on SFI27 due to the sheer amount of expiring agri-environmental schemes next year.

"It's interesting that on one hand the OBR recognises it and on the other hand the government doesn't."

📻Sharing his verdict on the government's Budget on the @FarmersWeekly podcast, NFU President Tom Bradshaw pointed to OBR (Office for Budget Responsibility) analysis recognising the inflationary pressures facing food production, which was not matched by action taken by government at the Budget for farmers.

Today's Budget is a missed opportunity.

While farming businesses welcome the extension of the red diesel fuel cut there was no plan to put the phrase "food security is national security" into action.
