98 containers of power transmission equipment released after nearly 20 years at Nigerian ports — Minister of Power,TegbeView quoted post on X
Over 98 containers of transmission equipment that had been stranded at Nigerian ports for nearly two decades have finally been cleared for release, according to Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe.
Tegbe said the equipment, which was procured to expand Nigeria’s transmission network, ease pressure on overloaded substations and improve electricity supply, had remained at the ports for almost 20 years.
He disclosed that the Nigeria Customs Service had approved the release of the first 98 containers, describing the development as a significant step toward strengthening the country’s power grid.
According to him, engineers will now verify and test the equipment before deploying it to areas where it is most urgently needed. He said the move would help revive stalled projects, reduce pressure on overloaded substations and improve the reliability of the national grid.
Tegbe added that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining 200-plus containers without further delay.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigeria Customs Service, relevant federal ministries, the Nigerian Ports Authority, terminal operators and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their support in facilitating the release.
“A stronger grid, one step at a time,” he said.
