Brashear High School hosted Pittsburgh Police officers this week to participate in the ongoing PBP Youth Connections program. The program focuses on building strong, positive relationships between officers and youth.

Officers dress in everyday attire rather than in their uniforms to help create a relaxed environment. Both parties engaged in an honest discussion about policing and participated in role-reversal scenarios, giving everyone an opportunity to walk in each other's shoes.

Pittsburgh Police’s “Youth Connections” brought some very special, four-legged officers from the Mounted Unit to visit students at Arlington K-8 yesterday!

Thank you to the staff and amazing students for a wonderful day of building strong, positive relationships with our youth.

Pittsburgh Police in Zone 3 honored the family of late Detective John Gagliardi by naming their plainclothes office after their longtime colleague who passed away in June.

Detective John Gagliardi spent more than three decades in law enforcement, working extensively as a detective in Zone 3. He left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him and knowing him.

Zone 3 Commander Jeff Abraham, District 3 Councilman Bob Charland, and State Senator Devlin Robinson were on hand to present proclamations to John's family, his wife Diane, son and Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Rocco Gagliardi, daughter Melissa, and grandson Lucas.

At the most recent Fall 2026 Student Police Academy class, the high school students had a special inside look at the Pittsburgh Police Mounted Unit.

Over the course of this ten-week program, the students are exploring criminal law, patrol tactics, and various specialty units to learn firsthand about the roles within the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
