Philly, we hear you on potholes. You’ve told us through @philly311 and right here in the comments about the potholes you drive around every day.

Our new Road Warriors Pothole Squad is a homegrown Philly solution to bring the average repair time down from three days to 48 hours.

Statement of Mayor Cherelle L. Parker on the Death of Malayshia Alford

“There are no words that I can employ to remove the unimaginable pain and suffering that the family of Malayshia Alford is experiencing with the tragic loss of their beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, and loved one.

As a mother, this has shaken me to my core. I can’t stop thinking about this precious baby and the heartache and turmoil that her immediate village will endure.

As a praying Mayor, who wholeheartedly believes in the power of God’s strength. I pray that God will give the family a certain peace that passes all understanding to meet this moment.

Our Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and the FBI will cross every “T” and dot every “I” to uncover all of the facts associated with this heinous and horrific tragedy, and to seek justice for Malayshia. Please know that we will continue to do anything and everything possible to assist their efforts.”

Statement from Mayor Cherelle Parker:

As Mayor, I serve every Philadelphian under the explicit premise that freedom of speech and freedom from fear are not competing values.

No one should be targeted, threatened, or made to feel unwelcome because of their faith, identity, or background. Every person deserves to feel safe and respected in the city they call home.

The planned November 8 boycott ride targets Jewish-owned restaurants in and around Rittenhouse Sq. and falls on the eve of the anniversary of Kristallnacht, a date that carries profound pain for our Jewish neighbors and for all who remember where unchecked hatred can lead.

Everyone has the right to peacefully protest and express their political views. But singling out businesses because their owners are Jewish is unacceptable and has no place in our city.

Let me be clear: safety is non-negotiable.

That is why I have directed the Police Commissioner to coordinate closely with the community and partner agencies. (Cont.)

The Portal is staying in Philly!

I want to thank a very generous patron who came forward to support the @portalsorg continuance here at City Hall.

The Portal is our front porch to the world, and our welcome never closes. 💙
