Never underestimate the impact your poppy makes ❤️

Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the 2025 Royal British Legion #PoppyAppeal, helping ensure we can be there for veterans and their families – whatever the need, whenever it’s needed.

We’re saddened to share that WW2 veteran Barbara Hurman has passed away at 100.

Serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service from 1943–47, she volunteered aged 17½ and was passionate about recognising the vital role women played in WW2.

Our condolences to her family & friends.

Barbara is pictured in a pink v-neck knitted jumper and light blue shirt, with a floral patterned scarf around her neck. She has short white hair, flicked out at the sides and wears glasses. She is smiling towards the camera.

A black and white photo of a young Barbara, she is smiling as she looks upwards and of to her right. Just visible is the collar of her uniform.

Nicholas served seven years with the British Army, deploying twice to Iraq and twice to Kosovo.

Leaving service was challenging, but he was supported by our Benefits, Debt and Money Advice (BDMA) Team.

We’re here if you need support too.
