Battered by mismanagement, sanctions, and war, Iran’s economy is in deep trouble. The cost-of-living crisis is forcing people to change what they eat, how they socialize, and what they can afford to do.

Here’s what it costs to cook five everyday Iranian dishes for a family of four, compared with a year ago.

Note: Prices are shown in toman. On Iran’s open market, the US dollar averaged about 111,000 toman from late September to late October 2025, compared with about 259,000 toman over the same period in 2026.

It now costs nearly twice as much to make chicken and barberry at home as it did a year ago. ⬇️

Iranian authorities have executed three men arrested in connection with the January 2026 anti-government protests in Karaj, according to the judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency.

Hassan Dioband, Hamid Kazemi and Reza Zanganeh were executed on November 8 after Iran's Supreme Court upheld their death sentences.

Mizan accused the three men of participating in operational activities for Israel, the United States, and groups described by the authorities as hostile to Iran. The judiciary also alleged that they took part in armed attacks, damaged public property, and targeted electricity infrastructure during protests on January 8 and 9.

However, the authorities have not publicly presented independently verifiable evidence substantiating the allegations. Human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns about unfair trials, forced confessions, and the use of capital punishment against political detainees in Iran.
