These statistics are alarming but true. According to the CDC:

• 8.7 million people in the U.S. are living with undiagnosed diabetes.
• Approximately 80% of people with prediabetes are unaware they have it.

Unmanaged diabetes can cause serious health concerns. We’re expanding our health offerings this National Diabetes Month with free A1C testing for all who successfully give blood through Nov. 30 (one test result per calendar year). Gain valuable information about your blood sugar level over the past three months by making an appointment to donate blood: rdcrss.org/4A88Ccu

What can 200+ volunteers accomplish in four days? A lot.

@RedCrossLA volunteers recently teamed up with @HabitatLA for a four-day rebuilding and revitalization event supporting families affected by the January 2025 Palisades fire.

Alongside Habitat LA and other community partners, more than 200 volunteers came together to help repair homes, revitalize neighborhoods and support wildfire survivors as they continue rebuilding their lives.

This effort was supported in part through a Red Cross long-term recovery grant to Habitat LA, helping expand rebuilding and repair services for households facing significant challenges in their recovery.

Seeing so many people come together to help their neighbors is a powerful reminder that recovery doesn't happen alone. It's made possible by volunteers, community partners and generous donors who continue to show up long after a disaster.

To everyone who helped make this work possible: thank you. ❤️

Nearly 40% of Americans say their community experienced damage from extreme weather in the past year. These disasters don't always make national headlines, but their impact is felt every day in communities across the country.

In a new @Forbes article, Anne McKeough, our chief development officer, explores the rise of "quiet disasters" and why investing in preparedness, recovery and community resilience matters more than ever. rdcrss.org/3U6q55u

Doug and Georgann Howie only lived in their home for one year before a wildfire destroyed it.

They moved there to be closer to their children while Georgann continued cancer treatment, a journey she has been on for three years. Instead, they found themselves facing the unimaginable: the loss of their home and nearly everything inside.

For Doug, that included a lifetime of woodworking tools collected during his 27-year career as a high school woodshop teacher. The fire also claimed a new workshop he finished building just one week earlier.

Amid the devastation, a few cherished reminders remained:

• A garden stone made by their grandson, Benjamin, when he was a baby, complete with his tiny footprints and the words, "I love you, Grandma."
• A decorative rock from their front yard.
• A message left by a neighbor on a fence board behind the house that read, "God is good."

As Doug and Georgann navigate life after the wildfire, @RedCrossNW volunteers have helped them and their neighbors access supplies, resources and critical support.

"It's so encouraging to see the Red Cross around just helping people," Georgann said. "I make it a point to thank them all."
