Bottom 5th, Diamond Dawg Classic, Ben Bracewell now pitching for Team Thunder, which trails Team Lightning 3-9.

After Marshall Gilbert singles, Rowdey Jordan and Tanner Allen single as well, and it’s a 10-3 Lightning lead, two on, and no outs.

The clock goes under five minutes, and we don’t believe an inning can begin under ten, so looks like we’re near the end. It’s runners on the corners with one out, and Blake Smith will come on to pitch for the Thunder.

Hunter Renfroe watches a ball go to the backstop, and Rowdey Jordan scores to make it 11-3. Renfroe walks and Amani Larry bats and his sinking drive to RF is boot RF for another run, 12-3. Grant Hogue grounds to the pitcher, and Jarrod Parks steps in with a chance to end the game. His bullet to 1b is stabbed and does indeed end the game at 12-3 and 58 degrees.

Good night from Dudy Noble Field!

If not before, we’ll talk college baseball again in January for preseason press conference with Coach Oak and select Bulldogs.

Thunder 3-7-3
Lightning 12-7-1

Top 5th in the Diamond Dawg Classic, Jake Mangum leads off for Team Thunder against new Team Lightning pitcher Vance Tatum. With a six-run bottom of the 4th, Tatum is now defending a 9-2 lead.

Mayor Mangum slams a ground rule double down the 1b line but can’t advance on a ground ball. Brad Corley bats and after a ball to the backstop moves Mangum to 3b, he walks to put runners on the corners with one out.

Dustin Skelton bats and bounces a ground ball past 3b that makes it 3-9 for Thunder and brings on Colby White to pitch for Lightning.

White gets a diving effort at 2b to get Skelton, and Ross Mitchell will pitch to Jeff Flagg with two out. He lines to 2b, and that will end the half inning. We go to the bottom of the 5th, 11 minutes now on the countdown clock, and the bottom half may wrap this thing up. It’s 9-3, Team Lightning over Team Thunder.

Bottom 4th, Jacob Billingsley on to pitch for Team Thunder and will face Jarrod Parks of Team Lightning, which leads 3-2. Parks is hit by pitch and Luke Hancock bats. He walks and there are two on with no outs for Marshall Gilbert.

A pitch bounces away and both runners are now in scoring position for Gilbert. He walks to load the bases, and Rowdey Jordan will bat with a chance to expand the Lightning lead.

Jordan watches a pitch go to the backstop, and the runners move up when the lead runner scores. A ground ball by Jordan to the left side scores another, the one runner left still in scoring position with one out.

Tanner Allen bats and walks. That brings up Jet Butler with two on, one out. He walks to load the bases, and Hunter Renfroe bats next and gets an RBI from his walk, now 6-2.

Manager Mitch Moreland is out to the mound and calls in Luis Pollorena to pitch to Amani Larry, bases still loaded with one out. Larry sends a grounder to 3b that Vickerson has trouble securing and drives a run in, then Craig Tatum drives in another with a single to RF. A sac fly gets yet another run and out, then Hancock’s slow grounder to 1b ends the inning. But, not before six score and widen the Lightning advantage to 9-2. We also just went under 28 minutes on the game countdown.

Top 4th in the Diamond Dawg Classic, Devon Jones in to pitch for Team Lightning against Cody Brown leading off. By the way, we just went under an hour of the remaining 2-hour time limit.

Brown strikes out and Jeff Flagg grounds out. Joe Powell bats with two out and none on, but that quickly changes on a single up the middle. Scotty Dubrule walks and Jake Vickerson will bat. Now two on with two out, he bounces out to Gridley on a dandy field and throw that ends the half inning. It’s still Lightning 3, Thunder 2.
