Michigan’s elections are free, fair and run professionally. But given all the noise out there, here’s what happens after polls close on Tuesday. There’s a very prescribed process for counting votes and certifying our election, and education is the best defense against misinformation.

I joined @MetroDetroitBBA for a fireside chat at Rosa Café in Detroit to hear what local Black business owners are up against right now.

The Trump administration's attack on DEI led to cutting economic development and small business programs that help Black entrepreneurs access capital they need to grow. On top of that, tariffs are driving up costs and making it harder to plan ahead.

Losing access to a grant or a loan can mean holding off on hiring someone or putting plans for a second location on hold. For communities across Michigan, that can mean one fewer job or one more empty storefront.

We should be making it easier to start and grow a business in Michigan. These cuts are doing the opposite.

I’m glad to see more than $145 million in federal disaster aid move forward for Great Lakes Energy and Presque Isle Electric & Gas following last year’s devastating ice storm. These funds are an important step toward recovery and will help offset the costs of restoring power across Northern Michigan.

We must continue working to ensure our communities have the support they need to recover and that families aren’t left carrying the burden of these costs alone.
