In 2016, at the age of 93, WWlI veteran Ernie Andrus inspired the nation by running nearly 3,000 miles coast-to-coast. The reason? To raise awareness for an unsung hero of the war — a ship he served on called an LST. Ernie died earlier this month at 103.
