Yesterday, our CEO and co-founder @DrSynbio sat down with @MTSlive and explained the technology behind STX-003.

Until now, genetic medicine has been limited by its own payloads: molecules that are powerful enough to kill cancer are also often toxic to healthy cells. But with this molecular “encryption” technology, Strand is building mRNA medicines that selectively turn on in tumors while sparing healthy cells.

Strand Therapeutics CEO @DrSynbio explains how a new cancer trial could break a 25-year barrier in genetic medicine by getting IV-delivered mRNA to work beyond the liver:

"We've started our clinical trial, ASCENT-1, which is the first dosing of STX-003, the world's first IV deliverable messenger RNA that targets to solid tumors."

"For us in the genetic medicine field, it's a huge leap forward because for the last 25 years we've been stuck only able to intravenously dose genetic medicines to the liver."

"The much broader story is that medicine is really becoming programmable, and it is becoming programmable at a time that, between AI, synthetic biology, and other technologies, are really hitting a verticalization arc in our ability to design new medicines."

Strand is bringing two presentations to #SITC26 this week, covering our programs STX-001 and STX-003.

Fresh off her late-breaking presentation at ESMO, @ProfGLongMIA of @MelanomaAus will be presenting updated Phase I data on STX-001’s durable, systemic anti-tumor activity.

As our first clinical program, STX-001 provided preliminary evidence that a therapy injected directly into a tumor may activate the immune system throughout the body. It helped lay the foundation for STX-003, our flagship clinical program that just dosed its first cohort of patients in ASCENT-1.

Trial principal investigator, @MLJohnsonMD2 of @SarahCannonDocs, will present on the design of ASCENT-1, which is evaluating STX-003 as a systemically delivered, programmable self-replicating mRNA engineered to switch on selectively inside tumors.

📅 Friday, November 6 | Phoenix Convention Center
📢 STX-001 oral: 4:55–5:05 pm MT, West Building-300 Level, 301BC
🧬 STX-003 poster: North Building-Lower Level, Exhibition Halls 4-6

Strand made an appearance last week in Times Square! Thanks to @Nasdaq for featuring our STX-003 news on the tower.

STX-003 is our systemic programmable mRNA therapy, now being administered to patients in the ASCENT-1 clinical trial. The drug is designed to deliver IL-12, a potent cancer-killing immune signal, to tumors throughout the body while staying silent in healthy cells.

Strand has won Best Biotechnology Startup at the 2026 Prix Galien USA Awards, America’s preeminent prize for leading-edge scientific advances.

The recognition comes right as we’ve dosed the first patients in ASCENT-1, our trial testing STX-003, an intravenously delivered programmable mRNA therapy to tumors throughout the body. The payload is the potent cancer-killing immune signal IL-12, a molecule with the power to eradicate tumors that’s been sidelined for decades by its toxicity.

Controlling where these powerful payloads activate, down to the cell, is what we believe will form the foundation of the next era of medicine.
