Moores Cancer Center member Samir Gupta, MD, Sam. M. Walton Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, is an author on a new @NEJMEvidence report using SEER data. It found that U.S. colorectal cancer incidence rose from 36.7 to 38.3 per 100,000 between 2022 and 2023, the first apparent increase since 2000. The authors call for continued surveillance.

Meet Moores Member Dr. Aditya Bagrodia, Professor of Urology and Radiation Oncology and Genitourinary Oncology Disease Team Leader at UC San Diego.

Dr. Bagrodia leads complex, multidisciplinary care for all urologic malignancies, with a research focus on germ cell tumors, spanning basic, translational, and clinical science. He chairs the ECOG testicular cancer working group and serves on the NCCN testicular cancer guidelines panel.

Beyond the clinic and lab, he volunteers his time to organize patient-facing summits for people affected by prostate, bladder, testicular, and kidney cancers.

Moores Cancer Center Director Diane Simeone, MD, is one of nine oncology leaders featured in Becker’s Hospital Review on what it will take for cancer vaccines to become standard care.

Her comments follow phase 3 results showing a personalized mRNA vaccine cut the risk of recurrence or death in high-risk melanoma by 42% when added to immunotherapy.

Dr. Simeone says advancing validation will require additional investment, and that comparing personalized and off-the-shelf approaches will be important for assessing performance, economics, and reach into community care.
