Must capitalism reform itself to ensure its own survival?

📖 This is the central question raised in Antoine Frérot’s #book, published by @Ed_Flammarion in late October 2026. In the book, the Chairman of Veolia reflects on contemporary capitalism, which he believes is characterized by the dominance of shareholders, the pursuit of immediate profits and the growing financialization of businesses.

Antoine Frérot challenges this narrow approach, arguing that a company cannot remain successful over the long term if it neglects its employees, customers, suppliers or the communities in which it operates. Its long-term viability depends on the quality of its relationships with everyone who contributes to its development.

At a time when purchasing power, the green transition, taxation and working conditions feature prominently in public debate, he wants to put business back at the center of economic and political thinking. His ambition is clear: to preserve capitalism by correcting its excesses.

Developing a solution to recover rare earth magnets from waste? This hashtag
#call for solutions is for you.

Together with @EIT_RM_RCF, we’re launching the Open Innovation Challenge to help change the game.

Electric mobility, renewable energy, electronics, home appliances… These magnets are essential to many technologies. Yet a significant share is still lost at the end of product life.

We’re looking for solutions to improve their identification, extraction, dismantling, demagnetization, sorting, or preprocessing.

🌍 Startups, SMEs, universities, and research organizations worldwide: apply with technologies at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or above.

Finalists will have the opportunity to present their solutions directly to Veolia teams and explore potential collaborations.

🌍 How can we give #younger generations a voice in the decisions shaping tomorrow’s industry?

At Veolia, our Future Generations Council has a clear mission: to bring the voice of the planet and future generations into the Group’s decisions. Thirty young leaders, including Veolia employees and external members, bring together diverse perspectives to propose practical solutions and accelerate ecological transformation.

Kanha Matai, Performance Manager at Veolia and Council member, shares this ambition.
Focused on the industry of the future and risk culture, the Council’s first cycle led to three solutions presented to our Executive Committee. Among them, hashtag#PRISM, Pricing Risk and Inaction Simulation Model, was selected for implementation across the Group.

This model will combine Veolia’s data, climate projections, and AI capabilities to anticipate risks and measure the cost of inaction. It aims to:

▪️ Quantify the environmental, social, and economic costs of inaction
▪️ Help our teams and clients better anticipate risks
▪️ Inform today’s decisions by taking their long-term impacts into account

A first tangible example of how younger generations’ ideas can become practical solutions for Veolia.
