Lonnie Thompson went to the ends of the Earth and above the clouds to document and understand the effects of the climate crisis on our planet. Across the highest mountain ranges, from the Andes to the Himalaya, his physically arduous and heroic research revealed the rapid decline of the world’s highest glaciers. And his meticulously documented findings from the ice cores he carried back down the mountains had an impact far beyond the scientific community. His lifelong determination to communicate what he discovered about the global impact of the climate crisis with policymakers and the public was extraordinary. For more than three decades, Lonnie and his wife and scientific collaborator Ellen Mosley-Thompson were trusted advisors to me and many others on climate science. Lonnie was an invaluable ally in the global movement to solve the climate crisis and was a cherished friend I will miss dearly. nytimes.com/2026/11/06/sci…

Dolores Huerta was an indomitable force for justice for farm workers, immigrants, and those who are too often denied a voice in the decisions that impact their lives and livelihoods. She was a pioneer in the environmental justice movement, having seen the harm that extreme heat, pesticides, and other environmental threats have had on farm workers. Her courage to speak out against injustice must inspire us to use our voices to challenge inequity and wrongdoing. We must remember the spirit of her rallying cry, "¡Sí, se puede!" and draw inspiration from her persistence as well as her optimism as we navigate our own turbulent times. My heart goes out to her family, colleagues, and everyone feeling this loss deeply.
In the past four years, two major energy shocks caused by geopolitical crises have exposed the far-reaching economic, security and humanitarian consequences of our continued reliance on fossil fuels. The case for the clean energy transition has never been clearer.

In Singapore last week, I had the privilege of welcoming our newest cohort of @ClimateReality Leaders from across Southeast Asia — and I walked out of that room inspired. The determination, the ideas, the urgency they carry: this is what the moment demands.
The region is on the front lines of the climate crisis. But it is also home to extraordinary leadership, innovation, and opportunity that will shape a cleaner, more just future — and the people in that room are proof.
We held this training in partnership with AT ONE Impact Week. Together - that's how we mobilize action at the scale this crisis demands.
One thing has never been clearer: the climate can't wait — and neither will we. #ClimateCantWait #LeadwithClimateReality See less

In one of her many memorable hit songs, Dolly Parton famously sang about a “9 to 5” job that was “all taking and no giving.” So, in looking back on her amazing legacy, it's fitting to remember her for all her giving to others throughout her life: all the joy she gave us all with her incredibly beautiful songwriting, her captivating voice, and her endless creative pursuits. The 300 million free books she gave to children across America and around the world through her Imagination Library. All the fun she gave to families who visited Dollywood. The crucial funding and support she gave for medical research into pediatric cancer, infectious diseases, and not least, the Moderna COVID vaccine. She gave funding to provide shelter and food for the victims of disasters. I’m especially grateful for all that she gave back to our beloved home state of Tennessee. For many, her lasting gift is the inspiration to give back to our own communities with the same passion, humor, and conviction as Dolly. God bless her and may she rest in peace. We will always love her!
