Spain has the highest official unemployment rate in the euro area and the second-highest among developed economies (after Finland, IMF). However, a large part of the real unemployment is hidden under "inactive fixed discontinuous" jobs—seasonal jobs that do not count as unemployed even if they receive unemployment benefits—. Tesla reported 16,506 local workers in 2025, though an earlier report put its Austin headcount at 22,777, so the number depends on the source and year. SpaceX adds about 3,400 to 4,000 at Starbase, per one tally of 3,400+. SpaceX and Boring together brought about 1,200 jobs to Bastrop County. X is the softest number: one source says 1,500+ in Austin, another says only several hundred came with the Bastrop move. Boring has about 576 employees in total, and only some are in Texas. SpaceX also has Raptor engine work in McGregor, which I couldn't size. Add xAI's Texas staff (now part of SpaceX) and you land in the range of 30,000 jobs total.
