Today Northwood has raised $100M in Series B funding led by @WashingHarbour and co-led by @a16z to support a simple objective – take space missions further faster.

This financing follows millions in signed contracts including a $49.8 million contract with the Space Force to support the Satellite Control Network – critical infrastructure used for launches and early satellite operations, to track and control satellites, and to provide emergency support to tumbling and lost satellites.

It's hard to believe it's been less than two years and nine months since we first announced Northwood as a small team of six. Today we are announcing a $375M Series C.

Griffin, Shaur, and I founded the company on the premise that the demand for data through space would grow exponentially and the industry needed a fundamentally new approach to ground infrastructure to support that. We are still early innings in this story and grateful for our capital partners joining in this next chapter.

This year has been a busy one for Northwood! We’ve announced and deployed two product lines across multiple continents, we’ve tripled in headcount, we’ve contracted with new customers and deepened engagements with existing ones.

There is so much to do and we are just getting started.

Grateful for the partnership of @a16z and @dfjgrowth and substantial follow-on investment from
@washingharbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and others in our 300M equity raise and @HSBCInnovation for joining with us for a 75M debt financing.

Let’s go build!

Today, Northwood is announcing a $375M Series C.

In February of 2024, less than three years ago, we announced Northwood as a small six-person team.
We’ve grown a lot, but the goal stays the same – solve connectivity between Earth and space to take missions further faster.

The world is hungry for more data movement through space, and that is what we're building for, with scalable network capacity for the most challenging use cases.

We are proud to add new partners to our cap table and continue the journey with existing ones as we enter this new chapter.

Thanks to @a16z @DFJvc @WashingHarbour Alpine Space Ventures @stepstone and many others.

Making galactic scale ambitions a reality is notoriously hard. Hence the famous, "the best way to become a millionaire in the space industry is to start as a billionaire" quote. But I find the strategic sequencing one of the most fun challenges.

When you have a big vision for space, how do you break that goal it into the right size chunks to actually make sustaining revenue while moving along the most critical derisking points in the operational path? That has led us to "unsexy" problems that matter enough to build a 185,000 sqft factory around!

It's gratifying to feel the momentum of this flywheel reward us with more scope and more resources to run even faster.

Thanks for coming by for a first look at the factory @MollySOShea !

“There's enthusiasm around compute use cases & IoT & other future industries moving to space. But the reality is—that's not space today.”

@bridgitmendler says SpaceX’s IPO has created a ton of momentum & new ideas in the space industry, but companies like @NorthwoodSpace still need to build around real businesses that exist today:

“We're a pragmatic business. We're very excited about the potential of space. We appreciate that there's public sentiment & excitement about space, but we're also making sure that we're building a real business today so that we can rely on our own business going forward.”
