"Someone loves this patient more than anything. They are someone’s parent, spouse, or child. They are someone’s everything."

For @TrudyWuMD, cholangiocarcinoma is not just the disease she treats; it is the disease that took her father 11 years ago, long before she became a radiation oncologist.

In an essay published in Practical Radiation Oncology, Dr. Wu reflects on how the grief of losing her father continues to shape the physician she is today. When she sees a family navigating the uncertainty and heartbreak of a cholangiocarcinoma diagnosis, she recognizes something familiar: the desperation of loving someone and wanting more time with them.

Her words remind us that sometimes our deepest experiences of loss can help us show up for others with greater compassion, understanding, and humanity.

Thank you, Dr. Wu, for sharing your story and for the care, compassion, and dedication you bring to patients and families affected by cholangiocarcinoma. Thank you for the work you do to make a difference in our community. 💚

On this season's finale of Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship, baker Kyle Caulkins dedicated his final cake to the people who mean the most to him: his family.

At the heart of his tribute was his mom, who was diagnosed with late-stage bile duct cancer when Kyle was in high school. She underwent a liver transplant and gallbladder removal, and Kyle shared the encouraging news that she has been cancer-free for more than two years.

We appreciate Kyle's vulnerability and for helping bring awareness to cholangiocarcinoma and reminding others that behind every diagnosis is a family with a story of its own.

To Kyle and his mom, thank you for sharing your journey and helping raise awareness of bile duct cancer. And to everyone affected by cholangiocarcinoma, please know that you are not alone. The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation is here to connect patients, caregivers, and families with support, resources, and a community that understands. 💚

Every story shared helps raise awareness of this rare cancer and strengthens the community working toward a future with better treatments and hope.

Thank you, @NBCChicagoMed, for bringing attention to cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), a rare cancer that deserves greater awareness. 💚

While the episode took an unexpected turn, it sparked an important conversation about the complexities of a cholangiocarcinoma diagnosis and the uncertainty patients may face upon diagnosis.

Because cholangiocarcinoma is rare and complex, connecting with a specialist experienced in cholangiocarcinoma can help patients better understand their diagnosis, explore treatment options, and make informed decisions about their care.

If you or someone you love is navigating a cholangiocarcinoma diagnosis, please know you don’t have to do it alone. The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation is here to provide education, resources, and connections to a community that understands.

Thank you to Chicago Med for helping bring rare cancers into the conversation. There is still hope, and there is a community standing beside you.
