This year has been a trying year for my family. Wife has had to deal with surgery, chemo, and now radiation for stage 3 breast cancer.

To help my kids cope and thrive I’m having my kids hit a lot of balls everyday (table tennis and tennis). It’s part distraction but it’s also a way for them to grow in their coordination, reflexes, athleticism, and more. It keeps them positive, active and eager to learn and grow.

Focus on the ball and hit it. Hundreds of times everyday. Something good will come out of it. At least that’s my hope.

Just posted this video about an outside team (METR) spending 11 weeks inside Anthropic trying to answer: Is AI now speeding up the building of AI?

The ending has my take:
"With AI models improving themselves or having a greater role doing so, that means the leading AI frontier companies will have exclusive access to the smartest and most capable models well before the public does. That gives them a huge advantage. But is it a fair advantage? It almost seems like a monopoly - a monopoly on the smartest intelligence. Let’s say they keep the smarter intelligence for themselves to use and only release it when they have a smarter AI model that’s already been developed. So in other words the public always gets the dumber model. Then the leading AI labs use their always smartest model to make discoveries, build new products, disrupt products and services of existing companies, you name it. Is that really fair?"

This struck a chord with me. “(We’re) sick of both parties’ BS. It’s like watching a bad WWE match.”

Seriously.

What’s worse is the lack of real solutions and effort to try to understand deeper causes. Lots of amygdala response. Not enough prefrontal cortex usage.

@davelee Great video and thoughts Dave. This resonates strongly with us that are in the middle and sick of both parties BS. It’s like watching a bad WWE match. People want reasonable discussion and thoughts that are interested in actual progress and truth. Not sensationalism.
