Also a really nice result! I use the Engelken et al paper for both MSc and BSc projects and it's great to see this additional analysis!

After finding a solution with Astra, @d_g_clark kept working until he built a clean derivation. It is this second stage what makes the work truly useful for the community

Compare it with the recent @OpenAI release which simply skipped the second stage

One of the deepest thinkers I have met. I was hoping to hear an update of his causal set ideas at the recent 't Hooft birthday meeting in August.

The theoretical physicist Rafael Sorkin died on September 12, 2026, at his home in Kitchener, Ontario.

He is best known as one of the main developers of causal set theory, an approach to the emergence of spacetime from discrete points. Nearly a decade before the accelerating expansion of the universe was discovered in 1998, he predicted that causal sets would give rise to an "everpresent" cosmological constant. He also introduced entanglement entropy as a possible explanation for black hole entropy.

The millennium prize progress is astonishing. But there is an important mystery about the close timing of parallel teams of human mathematicians with deep problem experience (who did use AI) and those from openAI with less problem experience (I think) but enormous compute.
