I don't think you're finding a ton of starters on offense (aside from a new, 1y placeholder QB) that you'd put in your long term plans. They're going to have to hit with some Day 2 picks there.

Playing contrarian- Setting aside the idea of resigning Nelson as a team building strategy through a rebuild, one I'd endorse, I think the exploding guard market and a league wide re-emphasis on running the ball should have warranted higher compensation than historical precendent

Guards in general - much less on a contract year! - don't generate much trade value.
It's hard to see him go. But the value of the trade is perfectly fine.
