Increased military activity near nuclear facilities is underlining the persistent dangers facing nuclear safety and security during the conflict in Ukraine, IAEA Director General @rafaelmgrossi said today, stressing that such military operations must stop to help prevent a serious nuclear accident.

Reports of drone attacks affecting plant personnel and the cities where they live, including the killing of a ZNPP staff member, together with potential threats to external power supplies, highlight the continuing vulnerability of nuclear facilities and the infrastructure on which they depend.

An IAEA team of experts today said the Russian Federation has a capable and independent nuclear and radiation safety regulatory body with mature systems for nuclear regulation and the promotion of a strong safety culture.
The team also identified several key areas where improvements could be made to enhance the overall effectiveness of the regulatory system in the Russian Federation, including coordination among regulatory authorities and workforce planning and training.

More than 300 radiologists, medical imaging technologists, paediatricians, surgeons and other specialists from every province of Mongolia have strengthened their skills in paediatric medical imaging through a national training course aimed at making medical imaging for children even safer and more accurate.

The course was delivered by the IAEA human health and technical cooperation programmes, in collaboration with local and international partners.
