In modern warfare, tactical wireless communications is as critical as firepower.

Delighted to inaugurate WiCOMM 2026, the IEEE International Conference on Wireless Communication for Military Applications, organised by DEAL, DRDO, in Dehradun.

India’s indigenous SDR capabilities, together with advances in AI, 5G/6G and satellite communications, can help shape the future of secure, resilient military networks.

The release of Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) Security APIs during the conference was particularly gratifying for me, having been associated with the IRSA initiative during my tenure as Director of IIT Kanpur. It is encouraging to see such indigenous efforts progressing towards secure and interoperable military communication systems.
