Nature conservation can be a gruesome business. Genuinely impressive levels of public support invasive species eradication in New Zealand.

As my own MSc dissertation into grey squirrel control showed, support requires a level of political bravery + a good story to tell in order to get the public onside. I can but dream we are capable of the same unashamed ambition!

Apparently the state firearm will join the state flower (the syringa), the state vegetable (the potato), and the state dinosaur (oryctodromeus cubicularis).

I have just learnt that the good people of Idaho are currently casting their non-binding votes in a referendum for what the state gun should be... joining the 10 states that already have officially designated a state firearm.
