I wrote hundreds of stories for Salon between 2005 and 2007. Sky was the limit, with an expense account for travel. Have fun. Push the boundaries. Break news. This was the riot that taught me how to cover campaigns, with the freedom to write like it was still the 1970s. Salon may be gone, but we all live in the shadow of what Salon showed the country about online journalism. There will be at least 18 new senators next Congress, possibly as many as 20 depending on Alaska & Mississippi. So as much as one-fifth of the Senate will be new.

Plus Senate is losing many of its most senior senators - McConnell, Collins, Durbin, Cornyn, Klobuchar
