Big Tech has the money to build AI data centers. But can it get the permits and power?

The Nasdaq plunged 5.5% on Nov. 5, while the Semiconductor Index (solana:5XqMbyZbtse5UQUzgrYMpeWLWLR6BWFqUm5H3VAWpump) lost over 12%, as concerns over AI infrastructure restrictions rattled Wall Street.

The timing matters.

According to SemiAnalysis, roughly 75% of planned 2027 data center capacity additions across 20 tracked U.S. states are already under construction. But much of the 2028 pipeline has yet to break ground.

That leaves future GPU and infrastructure orders more exposed to permitting delays.
Historically, 9 of 10 Nasdaq corrections in our study were followed by gains over six months. But a rebound is far from guaranteed.

AI demand may still be strong. Turning investment plans into operational capacity is becoming a different challenge.
