Very sad to hear of the passing of @JohnLEsposito.

He was a kind, humble, and deeply genuine man who dedicated his life’s work to advancing the scholarly understanding of Islam and helping demystify it in the West. We stayed in touch after a wide-ranging interview I conducted with him in 2023. Away from the cameras, he spoke candidly with me about the challenges of promoting accurate narratives about Islam—grounded in its true teachings and history—within American academic institutions shaped by competing influences.

A tremendous loss. I’m grateful to have known him.
