What actually happened in the Binance hack?

$6.3B was taken from Binance hot wallets across ten blockchains, the largest crypto hack on record. Roughly $3B, nearly half, has already been frozen. Effectively a first for a hack this size.

The difference? That half was held in stablecoins, mainly USDT and USDC. Their issuers can freeze tokens at the contract level, and Tether’s first freeze landed within an hour of the sweep.

BTC, ETH and other native assets had no issuer anyone could call. Those funds are still moving.

Our reel breaks down how the funds moved, where the freezes happened, and why some assets could be stopped while others couldn’t.
