Preparedness in Action.
Public Health Service officers participated in Uniformed Services University’s Operation Bushmaster 2026, providing hands-on instruction to medical and nursing students while working alongside other uniformed services in realistic field simulations.
The students were guided in applying Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) principles while strengthening their clinical, leadership, and teamwork skills to deliver care in grave situations. Read more here: news.usuhs.edu/2026/10/modern…

Today we spotlight LCDR Shantel Barnes, a physical therapist in the USPHS Commissioned Corps. Her drive to be an officer is deeply connected to her family’s history of service. In her words, "I always wanted to serve a cause higher than myself". #WhyIServe #USPHS #PTMonth

"Your smile is one of the first things that someone notices. I wanted to be the person to help someone love their smile" says LCDR Miranda Nelson on why she became a dental hygienist. This Dental Hygiene Month, we are sending our appreciation to all dental hygienists, with a special shout out to those serving in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. #WhyIServe

Happy Dental Hygiene Month! Thank you to all dental hygienists helping to protect oral and long-term health, including some of our Public Health Service officers. When asked why she became a dental hygienist, LCDR Shea Thomas said: "I [..]value the opportunity to connect with patients and help them understand how to care for their oral health and how it affects their overall health and well-being". We are very proud of the 14 Public Health Officers that participated in the Army Ten-Miler (ATM) this month. Every year, officers participate to build esprit de corps and support the @USArmy.
